Privacy notice
Last updated 11 October 2026
Counter shows what cafes and bakeries in Singapore charge. We collect very little about you, and we follow Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA). This notice says what we collect, why, and how to reach us.
Who we are
Counter is run by a small team in Singapore. For anything about your data, reply to any of our emails.
What we collect
Things you give us
- Your email address, when you join the waitlist or sign up for The Weekly Bake, our free Monday email.
- Menu photos or PDFs, your shop name and your email, when you add your shop.
- Your suggestion, and your email if you choose to add it, when you share an idea.
Things we record while you use the site
- Usage events, such as which item you looked at or which button you pressed. Each is tied to a random id that lives only in that browser tab. It is never written to your device and is gone when you reload.
- Where the visit came from: a short tag on our own links (for example
?src=newsletter) and the referring site's name only, never its full address.
We do not ask for your name, phone number or payment details. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not buy data about you.
How we use it
- To send the emails you asked for, and to tell waitlist members when paid plans start.
- To read the menus you send and add your shop and its prices.
- To understand which parts of the site help people, and fix the parts that do not.
We use your data only for these purposes. We never sell it or share it for marketing.
Who we share it with
We use a few service providers to run the site. They handle data only on our behalf:
- Supabase stores sign-ups, uploads, suggestions and usage events.
- Vercel hosts the site.
- OneMap (Singapore Land Authority) serves the map tiles, and cdnjs (Cloudflare) serves the map library. Your browser contacts them directly when the map loads, as with any website.
Some of these providers may store data outside Singapore. Where that happens, we expect them to protect it to a standard comparable to the PDPA. We will disclose data if the law requires it.
Cookies
We do not set cookies, and we do not keep anything in your browser's storage. Our analytics requests are sent without cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your email for as long as you stay on the waitlist or The Weekly Bake. Menu uploads are kept while we use them to list your shop. Suggestions and usage events are kept only as long as they help us improve the site. When we no longer need something, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Your choices
- Stop the emails with the one-click link in any email.
- Ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by replying to any of our emails.
- Withdraw your consent at any time. We will tell you if that stops us from providing something.
We aim to reply within 30 days.
Cafes and bakeries on our map
Prices come from each cafe's own menu, online or in the shop, and from two government lists. We list businesses, not people. If you run a shop and want a price corrected or your shop removed, reply to any of our emails. When we quote owners on our site, we do not name their shops.
Keeping it safe
Data travels over encrypted connections (HTTPS), and only our team can read what you send. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects you, we will tell you and the Personal Data Protection Commission as the PDPA requires.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will email the people it affects.
